World Classical Tamil Conference Anthem – Behind The Story
“The Tamil was of a very high standard and I initially wondered how I was going to do it, but thankfully it has come out well.”
“It took two to two-and-a-half months, but we were working with a large crew – almost 70 singers,”
“All of us together worked on the anthem – There was TMS [T.M. Soundararajan], Yuvan [Shankar Raja], Shruti Hassan, P.Sushila…(to name a few). Basically, I have been busy in Hollywood and also touring. Therefore I was working on a tight schedule and was available only for two or three days, so people who could come then joined us,A new verse on Kamban and Avvaiyar was added almost when the composing was over, and had to be incorporated into the final cut.”
TMS begins with “Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum,” the first lines of the anthem composed by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi. Some of the other top playback artistes featuring in the anthem include Harini, Hariharan, Benny Dayal, Srinivas, Vijay Jesudas, Naresh Iyer. My nephew G.V.Prakash and sister Rehana have also joined the ensemble.
The thing about this anthem, is that it also features singers who have distinguished themselves in other genres of music such as Carnatic (Aruna Sayeeram, Bombay Jaishree, Nithyashree and Sowmya), folk, Sufi (M.Y.Abdul Ghani, Khajamoideen, S.Sabumoideen), and even rap (Blaaze). Another key aspect is that three generations of singers have participated.
I think you will hear the words in this song. In fact we have kept the instruments to a minimum so that the words are clear. The traditional Tamil nagaswaram and tavil blend melodiously with the guitar and drums, even as the carnatic notes wind seamlessly with the rap.

ReplyDeleteஇங்கு கருத்துப் பதிவை பார்த்தவுடன் பெரு மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தேன்... காரணம் நான் வெகு நாட்களாக மனதிற்குள் பாராட்டிய பாடலை வெளிப்படையாக பாராட்ட இடம் கிடைத்துவிட்டது... என் வாழ்வில் பல திரைப்பட பாடல் வரிகள் என் மனதில் பதிந்திருக்கின்றன. அவற்றை விட ஆழமாக பதிந்தது இந்தப் பாடல் தான்... தமிழனாய்ப் பிறந்ததற்கு மேலும் பெருமைப்படுகிறேன்,இப்பாடலை ஒவ்வொரு முறை கேட்கும் பொழுதும்.. எனக்கு விருது வழங்கும் வலிமை வந்தால், இந்தப்படைப்பில் பங்குபெற்ற அனைவரையும் அழைத்துக் கொடுபேன்... நேரில் வாழ்த்த வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்காததனால் இதன் மூலம் தெரிவிக்கிறேன் வாழ்த்துக்களை என் இதயத்திலிருந்து... படுத்திருந்த நான் பாரட்ட இடம் கிடைத்தவுடன் எழுந்தமர்ந்து தட்டச்சு செய்தேன்... பிழை இருந்தால் மன்னிக்கவும்.. பேராசை நிறைவேறிய மன நிறைவுடன் உறங்கச் செல்கிறேன்... மீண்டும் ஆயிரம் வாழ்த்துக்கள்...

ReplyDeleteஅருமையான பாடல் கேட்கும் பாெழுது புல்லரிக்கிறது. ஆனால் தமிழ் வளரவேண்டும் என்றால் மக்களிடையே உள்ள சாதி, மதம் அழிய வேண்டும். இப்பாடலைப் பாடியவர்கள் போல அனைத்து மக்களும்(irrespective of their religion and caste) ஒன்றாக கூடி வாழ வேண்டும். மதம்,இனம் என்று வேறுபாடு இல்லாது வாழ்ந்தவன் தமிழன். தமிழன் என்ற திமிர் எனக்கு உண்டு தமிழை தாய் என்றே கருதிடுவேன். தமிழ் இல்லாமல் நான் இல்லை, தமிழ் இல்லாமல் மனிதனே இல்லை.
